OHIO’s Center for Campus and Community Engagement is seeking applicants for Community-Based Internships for Summer 2022. This program connects students to nonprofit and public sector organizations to engage in mutually beneficial internships that provide students with high impact experiential learning opportunities and provide community partners with tangible outcomes that directly benefit the southeast Ohio region. Positions are 17.5 hours per week for ten weeks from June 6th-August 12th with $12 per hour compensation. OHIO undergraduate students are eligible.
The Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) was founded in 1971 with a mission to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in Appalachian Ohio. COAD provides direct services in 30 counties in Early Care and Education, Senior Corps, Weatherization and Energy Efficiency, and serves all 88 Ohio counties (and several other states) in its accredited Weatherization Training Center. The Ohio Weatherization Training Center offers state-of-the-art technical packaged and customized training to home performance, energy conservation, and environmental mitigation professionals on building diagnostics, weatherization, heating system services and procedures, industry safety, and many other topics. Trained technicians work at Community Action agencies across the state applying weatherization strategies to qualified individual home owners to improve conservation and reduce costs to the home owners.
Internship Responsibilities:
· Lesson Plan Development for Trainings: intern will work with OWTC staff to assist with online content creation and research for the weatherization training center. This may include research, content creation, video camera operation, equipment setup and maintenance, testing and editing.
· Program Improvement: intern will review educational materials, IREC requirements and recommends acquisition of additional materials that will help trainees meet required learning standards.
· Marketing and Communications: intern will work with OWTC staff to help develop a marketing plan, social media strategy and/or overall increase the awareness and visibility of the OWTC. Intern will provide support in creating promotional materials such as video content, podcasts or any other materials needed.
Intern must have a reliable vehicle.
Preferred skills:
Computer skills To be successful, an individual should have the ability to operate a computer, video production and editing tools, collaborative document programs and have some experience with Leaning Management Systems, virtual content creation software and equipment.
Language skills Strong communication skills with people of all socio-economic levels both written and verbal. Ability to learn and develop curriculum suited for adults with varied learning abilities.
Mathematical Skills Strong math and analytical skills a plus. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
