Community-Based Internship Position at Indivisible Appalachian Ohio

 

Description of Organization:

Indivisible Appalachian Ohio, a community service and social justice organization, has had a presence since 2017 in seven SE Ohio counties (Athens, Meigs, Vinton, Jackson, Hocking, Washington, Morgan). Our north star is education, engagement, and empowerment of the people of Appalachian Ohio.

We have engaged the communities through various service projects, including a community survey, free haircuts for school-age children, winter clothing drives, food distributions, and more. Our civic work includes voter registration, get-out-the-vote campaigns, and issue advocacy.

Community Ambassador

Position Summary:

As community ambassador for Indivisible Appalachian Ohio, the intern will assist with already-being-planned community outreach, including a women’s empowerment seminar in Athens County. Other opportunities include but are not limited to planning and implementing nonpartisan voter registration and education in community and campus locations.

List of Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Serving on planning committee(s), including fulfilling committee commitments

·       Collaborating with staff for event promotion

·       Assisting with social media posts

·       Assisting with program evaluation

·       Providing timely feedback

·       Designing additional responsibilities as desired (possibilities include starting and hosting an affinity group, organizing a vigil, designing a fundraiser, etc)

Desired experience, qualifications, and skills:

We are looking for an outgoing, hard-working individual who will contribute to our mission to engage, educate, and empower folks in Appalachian Ohio. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and writing skills, be efficient, a team-player, able to work independently, willing to ask questions, and have a strong desire to organize in our community. Skills with graphic design, marketing, and/or website development are a plus.

Anticipated Impacts and Outcomes:

It is our hope that our summer intern will expand our capacity at IAO to reach people in Appalachian Ohio. Whether in a 1:1 meeting to share about our mission,  assisting a committee with fulfilling grant obligations, or an idea yet to be conceived, we expect our intern to expand their skill set and help build a more connected, resilient Appalachian home for us all.

Compensation:

  • $11 per hour for 20 hours per week
  • Mileage reimbursement for all travel outside City of Athens, Ohio
