Community-Based Internship VISTA: Mount Zion Black Cultural Center Integrated Marketing Communication/Research Assistant

Mount Zion Black Cultural Center’s Mission: To preserve the Century old Mount Zion structure as a community-wide Black Cultural asset and multi-use venue that recognizes and celebrates the contributions, history, and ongoing concerns of Black Americans in Southeast Ohio and throughout the region. Programs include education, arts, culture, community activities and catering services.
Position Summary: The Integrated Marketing Coordinator/Research Assistant will work with the Communication/Media Director & Executive Director to implement publicity, advertising, public relations, and social media tasks related to Quarters to Freedom (Q2F): Routes of the Underground Railroad Educational Fundraising Project which will launch Fall 2023 in various Ohio School Districts.
List of Duties and Responsibilities:

Research target markets for outreach and strategies for implementation of a plan to identify businesses along specific routes in Ohio related to the Q2F Fundraising Project.

Research OU Communication/media alums working in target markets along specific routes of the Q2F Fundraising Project for publicity, outreach, and strategic messaging.

Research and develop comprehensive communication and marketing plans with templates and best practices for social media, press releases and website management guidance.

Assist with research and data collection needed by other committees of the MZBCPS Board of Directors as time permits.

Anticipated impacts and outcomes (how will the student benefit the organization, the people served, and the region): The student will perform work that is highly desired at this time for Mount Zion to move forward in fundraising efforts which they cannot afford. It is an essential part of this non-profits integrated communication marketing strategy leading up to a Capital Campaign as well as promoting the understanding of how Black history developed throughout Ohio and neighboring states.
Compensation:
- $3,375 total living allowance (amount approximate and will be updated when finalized)
- $1,300 Segal Education Award (amount approximate and will be updated when finalized)
- $500 Education Award Partial Match by Center for Campus and Community Engagement
- Mileage Reimbursement for all travel outside City of Athens, Ohio
