Masks Now TN Sewist Volunteers #VirtualVolunteering

Open Opportunity

About

Masks Now TN has an urgent need for Sewist Volunteers to make cloth masks for distribution in Tennessee, especially Memphis*!

This volunteer role involves sewing cloth masks at home to be distributed to medical professionals and essential workers across Tennessee. Several patterns are provided, so you can pick one matching your skill level. If you are already sewing masks, you can continue to use your favorite pattern! In some cases, fabric or materials can be provided as we are working on ramping up supply chain for materials donations.

You can mail or deliver your masks to the Masks Now identified organizations in need, or we can match you with another volunteer to help get your masks to those in need! All donations will be handled as porch pick-ups/drop-offs with no physical contact.

Estimated time commitment: 1-2 hours a day (3-10 hours a week). There is no minimum requirement on the number of masks you can contribute since every mask makes a difference!

Express interest below and a representative will be in touch with next steps.

About Masks Now TN: Masks Now TN is a part of the Masks Now Coalition and was founded when hundreds of Americans, acting individually, started to make masks together to raise our country’s viral resistance to the spread of coronavirus. They joined forces to make an umbrella organization to handle the thorny design and logistical questions involved in massively distributed mask production to make sure those in need can get face masks. Our goal is to give each citizen the ability to take control of their community’s public health by making homemade masks for patients and essential workers in order to conserve the manufactured masks that protect our irreplaceable healthcare workers and doctors.
MasksNow is also in need of donated mask making supplies.  Any Tightly Woven Cotton fabric; Quilter’s Cotton; High thread count sheets; Gros-grain or fabric ribbon - prefer ⅜ inch; General purpose thread; Wound bobbins type 15; Sewing pins or mini clips; Elastic; Cord, bias tape, or thin bungee; Cutting mat or Fabric Scissor.
Fabric is requested to be new or in very good condition, freshly washed and dried on high heat.

If you have any of these items and are able to donate, please contact Jene Jacobson at distribution.make@gmail.com.
